The Man with The Wooden Gun

Image Hi my name is Christopher Thompson. This is the story of the day I saw the man with the Wooden Gun.

While people watching, I saw a man of little size control any one who came into his way. He told the women they weren’t pretty. And told the men to do things to make fools of themselves for his enjoyment. He would tell the ambitious to give up hope. He would approach those with hope in their pockets; and make them turn their pockets inside out…He would see happy families, and make the father walk away from his wife and kids….He would whisper to the women, to undermine and belittle their husbands…I followed him as he caused friends to gossip about one another….He gathered a small group together and had them judge someone of a “lower class” openly to his face. Every person he approached, it was the same routine…He would raise the gun and make his Demands. Terrified for their lives, they saw no other choice but to obey his wishes. He’d go to hospitals and yell “There’s no hope…GIVE UP!” He would hide next to the homeless and when people would begin to reach for money to lend he would hop out, point the gun and yell,”Keep walking…nothing to see here. This has nothing to do with you.” Out of fear, the people would put the money back into their pockets and walk away quickly. He would do the same thing in churches with collection plates, “Money back in the pockets…You can barely afford to help yourself. How can you afford to help anyone else…Let the pastor figure it out on his own.” The man would make radio broadcasts encouraging violence and poverty and demanding everyone obey.I watched him walk into a school, round up the teachers and yell, “You teach these kids just enough to stay broke….If you see any signs of an over achiever-you bring that kid back to REALITY…GOT IT?……Oh and one more thing….No more pledges….And kids get expelled for saying the word God”   After making the demands he’d put the gun back under his shirt and walk away. There was a crowd around him in the park as he was “teaching” how to predict the end of the world and why we should all live in fear; and how the government is everywhere so stay guarded. While pointing his gun to someone asking an innocent question, “What does the bible say about this,” I could finally see that the gun he used was made of wood? Seeing this I said, “You’re kidding me right?” “Who dares speak while I’m speaking” he said.

Raising my hand with a sarcastic smile,”Uhhhhmmmmm I do. You’re pointing a toy gun making demands and people are scared of you? Seriously, you’re trying to control a city with props from Toy Story. (laughing at this point).” An onlooker asked “What do you mean fake gun”  Grabbing the gun from the little tyrant I explained “Other then possible splinters or bruises if he did try to hit you…this gun can do no real harm.” He reached for the gun so I simply held it over my head. Out of reach from the little guy… “So we’ve been controlled by an individual who cant even hurt us, this entire time?” another asked. “Trust me. There’s nothing to be afraid of.” At this, the people turned to their vertically-challenged dictator, they resisted him trying to negotiate being let go…So he fled for his life. “What do we do now” Said a voice from the crowd,”Well, my plan is to live abundantly…as for y’all I just want y’all to prosper.

Don’t let men with wooden guns control your life. Do not allow them to convince you of untruths. Face the wooden guns and realize there is nothing to fear.

Always with you

Chris T.

Fish Differently

ImageWhile listening to an audio book, the author got into the story of Peter going fishing. He talked about how Peter cast his net out into the water to fish. Note that everyone else was using what would now be considered fishing poles which is how you would fish mid-afternoon because the water is so warm that time of day, the fish are in the lower, cooler parts of the water. s not traditional to fish with nets in the afternoon, it wasn’t popular, nor was it cool. To be honest, Peter would have looked downright foolish and almost appear to be wasting his time. Plus, he knew better. So, from the outside looking in, Peter may have looked crazy to those around him. Knowing this, I’m sure Peter may have felt uncomfortable. The thing is, the only reason that he used a net is because Jesus told him to; that’s all he needed. Onlookers who do not have that relationship Jesus will think your methods are unorthodox, may find it strange, and may cast their nets of opinions on you only because they don’t understand. When Jesus tells you to do something, he has your best interest at heart. As a result of Peter listening, his nets were overflowing to the point that he had to ask other boats to help him. I have fished a lot in my life and I’ve never caught a fish big enough where I needed to call a boat for assistance. Ironically, when you have a big dream, maybe God is asking you to change your fishing technique to one that will allow you to haul in the catch of abundance he has for you. What’s comfortable may get you by but if the point is to catch fish (have a life of blessings and prosperity), why settle for a fish when God wants to give you the whole school of fish?

I’ve learned to cast my cares of other people’s opinions overboard right along with my net of faith when God calls me to do something. Dreams, like fish, come in all shapes and sizes so whatever tickles your fancy on what you’re fishing for, enjoy it. Just make sure you’re listening to God about how to fish and you will pull in an abundance of whatever your heart desires. Ask and it will be given, seek and you will find, knock and it will be open. Cast the net of faith and catch an overflow of God’s blessings.

My Headphones

I wake up and the first thing I do is grab my headphones. Comfortable and all mine, I have a playlist for any kind of mood. It puts me in my own world; me and my headphones. Started to block out the noise for the world, but they also help me fuel however I’m feeling. They always take it up a notch; my headphones basically talk to my soul when nobody else is there to talk to. Sometimes it feels that way. Every day the same; wake up, go down stairs, grab my lunch, walk to school, come home to the same cleaned room, throw my stuff down, sleep, then repeat. I live with my Dad but he doesn’t have time for me. Sometimes I don’t even think he knows I’m around…
The walk to school is the same every day as well; usually rainy and grey. Seems every day I walk this is the weather. I can’t remember a day I walked without the rain. I put my hoodie up to keep as much of the rain out of my face as possible, also with my headphones I can seclude myself in my own little world. Somewhere on my walk I realize these shoes are worn down from walking every day. I’d ask my dad but he probably wouldn’t want to hear it. Somewhere else down the block I notice it’s about time for new clothes as well, but that’s the same category as the shoes. I coast through school, one headphone in, that way I still hear what I feel like hearing and only partially catch the rest of the stuff. Sometimes I hear bits of the nonsense…something about happiness or change or some Kum Ba Yah nonsense…School ends, rain starts, and I head home.
There was a day though that something changed; the day my dad and I crossed paths. He caught me on a day when my music of choice wasn’t helping the situation. He said, “hey”, and I mumbled something back. Then he asked, “how ya been?”…. “Is this a joke?”, I asked, “I haven’t talked to you in how long and you ask how I’ve been? Like you even care”. He smiled, (which really ticked me off), “You really don’t think I care?”, he asked, “You couldn’t care less about what’s going on in my life”, I said while leaning back in my chair. I walk to school in the rain, in the same old clothes, in the same busted shoes and sit in my room and we don’t even talk.”….waiting for his response he began smiling again… “Have you noticed your lunch is there for you every day when you come downstairs?”…”yeah”, I said. “Do you realize I get up an extra hour everyday to make it for you…your favorite foods…I get up because I love you and want you to have what you like. Have you noticed something about your walk to school?”, he said. “Noticed what?”, I asked. “Have you noticed the new pairs of shoes by the door? Or the fact that you never have to dry off when you get to school? I walk with an umbrella over you every day; it’s my morning exercise but it’s the time I get with you…It may rain all around you but I make sure to keep you away from most of it, same for when you’re out of school.”, He said. “Why would you walk all the way to school?”, I asked. He replied, “Son my favorite part of my day is walking with you, keeping you safe through the storm. I also make your bed for you because I feel you have a lot going on so I clean up behind the scenes so that you don’t have to worry about those things. I’ve always been around but I just figured when you have your headphones on that you don’t want to talk. I know kids want their space but I’m always close and always around if you ever need to talk, and if you ever need anything all you have to do is ask.” It was then that I realized it wasn’t that my dad was ignoring me, He was just waiting on me to say I needed him and he was respecting the space I postured myself to receive…This man walked through storms with me, left gifts, made sure I ate the things I loved, and cleaned behind me to relieve stress. I had to have a moment of honesty with myself that if there was a gap with me and dad, it was because of me.
Many people walk through life like the boy with the headphones when it comes to God, only seeing their circumstances, their walk that feels alone, etc. Sadly they fail to realize there is a Heavenly Father that walks with you every step of the way and is just waiting for you to come to him to talk and tell him anything you need. Just like the father he will not force his way into your life, it’s up to you to come to him, and until then your will live through the perspective similar to the boy from the story. Please don’t let another day go by without starting a relationship talking to our Heavenly Father. He’s walking with you, waiting for you to put your headphones down, and talk to him.

What if…

What if there were sign for your happiness. What if there were clues for your purpose.signs for your relationships. If could show you there’s force that doesn’t want you to realize what your capable of would you take time listen or would you continue to ignore the signs placed in front of you. It is my belief the life is made more complicated because while most people navigate the road of life they miss the road signs of happiness because they are focused on their own problems. So to help I propose looking at three aspects of life and asking yourself “what if” these were signs.

First aspect I ask you to look at is your purpose of being here. We are all born with the seeds of greatness inside of us and I feel it is extremely difficult for that seed to germinate under florescent lighting and in a cubicle. Personal opinion aside though. What if there were signs? What if the feeling you got when you have to wake up to pursue someone else’s dream was something trying to tell you that you should be pursuing your own. What if that same energy you get when you are leaving work or on a Friday, was a sign of the energy your suppose to have throughout life when your pursuing your passion. What if that smile and glow that the “lucky ones who made it” have, was there to show you the glow your suppose to have when your doing what you were made to do? 3 John 1:2 says “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” So if your not what happy and prospering, what if its because your not pursing your not fulfilling your duty. What if there were people put into your life that are waiting for you to decide to pursue your dreams so they can help you become great, yet they are standing right outside of the place that has become your comfort zone. What if they were even guaranteed to be there but it was up to you to get out of your own way and step out on faith to find them? What if?

Secondly I think looking at relationships is another place that I feel clues are left for those who take the time to pay attention. My personal opinion is that most people get caught up in the great area that blankets relationships/friendships and it is in this simple action that people conduct their own symphony of stress and misery. What if you looked at friendships by a simple filtering process “Are the a plus or a minus to my life” or “are they a helping me accomplish my goals or taking me away from my goals” (any filter question is fine the point is to put this person on one side of the fence or the other). Psalm 133 says “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!”. Not how stressful. So what if the constant bickering, the drama, the fear, the games ect, what if all that was signs that these people shouldn’t be involved in your life, either as much or at all. What if the repeat conflicts that saturate a relationship was a messaging saying “you will continue to have these problems until you realize im trying to tell you this person doesn’t belong in your life (this much/at all)”.If and just saying If you used this filtering and knew this was going on would you allow the life leeches to continue to suck you dry or would you leave the stagnant pool of that friendship?

Lastly and this is going to stretch a lot of y’all so I need you to pay close attention to this one. What if there was a force/adversary/power (whatever you wanna call the devil…to fill in the blank go right ahead). What if he didn’t want you to accomplish your purpose? What if he was afraid of men and women knowing their actual value, because if they knew their value they would not allow themselves to live a certain way. What if he knew that if we recognized that we are sons and daughters of a king, that we had the power to change lives, that it would take away from the chaos he wanted to create. What if he knew these things so he went above and beyond to distract us. What if he used fear? what if he used guilt? What if he used familiar faces? What if he knew that he could use family and friends to distract you from your goals and use guilt to hold you back because if you went focused on what you really wanted, you would impact millions? What if he used those around you to say things or do things to occupy enough space in your mind that it trumps that part that would be focusing on your goals? What if the reason “something comes up” every time you make up your mind to make yourself better, its because he wants to keep you down, yet if you stopped allowing yourself to be weak (sorry just honest) you could overcome whatever he put in front of you and go on to be great? What if he banned talking about these things in businesses and schools because he knew people were lazy and the only way to find out these truths would be to go out of their way and find it in books, bc he knew majority of the population would never do it? What if?

What if we all have a choice? What if we all chose to step up and play the game of life at a higher level? What if we let go of fear? what if we let go of anger? What if we let go of guilt? How great could we be? What if more people started paying attention to the signs in front of them. What if you lived a life outside of your comfort zone, and chose to change lives or at least pursue your dreams. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” What if he was telling the truth? What if?
